Lenovo is releasing the ThinkPad tablet on August 23rd, 2011. This will be the first tablet products released from Lenovo. We hope Lenovo will establish a reputation for building quality tablets similar to Asus. Our website is dedicated to reviewing Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet, in particular the hardware, software, display, build and media.
Build of the ThinkPad Tablet
Lenovo has designed quite a unique build for their premiere tablet. A picture is worth a thousand words, so look at the slideshow below:
Specific dimensions have not been published yet by Lenovo, but it appears the dimensions are going to be 10x7x1. This tablet is a little thicker than the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Asus Transformer, but there is a reason behind it. The Lenovo ThinkPad tablet has a full size USB port which is very uncommon in tablets. Lenovo’s thinking behind this to accommodate to business professionals that use USB flash drives consistently. This tablet also features a microSD slot, mini HDMI port, a SIM card slot and a mini USB port making it one of the most comprehensive tablets port wise. This android tablet is going to have 9 hours of battery life which is above average for a tablet of this size. There is an optional keyboard case available for the Lenovo ThinkPad tablet that can essentially turn the tablet in to a netbook.
Display of the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet
The display of this Lenovo tablet is 10.1 inches. The pixel density is 1200×800, which is on par with other high quality android tablets of this size. The glass used for the display of this tablet is top of the line. It is IPS Gorilla Glass that is highly sensitive to touch. Another feature the ThinkPad tablet comes with is a stylist pen which allows you to draw detailed images and mark up projects on your tablet. We think this feature will be extremely useful for business purposes.
Hardware on the Lenovo Tablet
The ThinkPad tablet is going to have a Tegra 2 1 GHz processor. This is the standard processor for a higher end tablet. To supplement the processor, this tablet has 1 GB of RAM. Overall these are good hardware specs for a android tablet. It will get the job done for almost anything you ask of it. There are three different storage capacities for this tablet: 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. Connectivity wise, this tablet has bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 3G capabilities.
Software on the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet
Android 3.1 Honeycomb is what the Lenovo ThinkPad is going to be shipped with. This is a great operating system for tablets. It allows you customize your tablet to your liking and has the android app store which has almost every app under the sun. As we mentioned earlier, this tablet was designed for business professionals. Lenovo thought that business professionals would like to have extra security features to keep their documents safe so they installed SD card encryption, a lost device mechanism and anti-theft software, and a tool to sync your PC with your tablet.
Media on the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet
We do not know much about the media capabilities of this tablet. What we do know is this: It has a 2 Mega-Pixel front facing camera used for self portraits and video chatting and a 5 Mega-Pixel rear facing camera. This tablet can also play 1080p video which will be great for watching videos.

i have seen micro sd and standard sd card size listed what is it realy. have pre ordered mine
I’ve never had such anticipation for a tablet until this one since the Ipad 2 (own the Ipad but hate Itunes, the inability to play Flash, and no memory slot). Like the button-up Thinkpad design including the buttons (no pun intended), but not sure how they cannot be accidentally pressed while holding. Often hear the new Thinkpad in comparison to the Asus Transformer but played with the latter in store and did not care for its cheap feel.
The Thinkpad keyboard accessory looks nice and distinguishable, unlike the generic looking Tranformer keyboard.
To make this a successful tablet, Lenovo needs to ensure that it can be upgradable to Android Ice Cream Sandwich in the upcoming months.
Lenovo will push the ice cream sandwich update when it becomes available.
Hi all. I found Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 32GB, 64GB edition on a website maker that problem is no 3G.
I recently ordered a Thinkpad Tablet they day they were available for purchase (Aug 23) and was shocked to find out that I would have to wait almost a month for the product to ship. What’s worse is that Lenovo sold me a tablet with Android 3.0 installed, confirmed via purchase statement and an inquiry email to customer service, and not 3.1 like is advertised all over the web. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this tablet for too long just so Lenovo can screw me out of the better operating system that I thought I was paying for. Sad to say I cancelled my order. Maybe they’ll get my business when they decide to sell what they’re advertising instead of trying to rip me off. Jerks!
@mr_deez I can confirm my Thinkpad tab shipped with 3.1. Dunno where the 3.0 idea came from…
Same thing happened to me. Sort of. When buying the tablet on their site in Aug. I had a shipping date with 9/6. When I got the confirmation email it said 9/19. Then I checked my order on 9/19 and they pushed it back to 10/5! What’s worse they didn’t even bother to tell me. After dealing with some less then polite customer service rep. from India I was told that it would take 2 days to cancel the order but my order might ship before then?!? When this is done I am running back to Apple. Soooo sorry I left!
Ordered mine on Tuesday evening from CDW and received it the following Friday. I’ve had it Two days now and I love it.
